How is Battle.net on WCIII structured?

Am playing on battle.net on WCIII with my mate, we sometimes play as a team at times. However, when we play against other teams, they seem to have med considerable resources at a fast pace. I know about strat and stuff, but come on, unless they are cheating, which is impossible or found a way around it. Am on the Human Castle Channel, does that indicate the team level you play against? if so which channel is good for new comers alike?
