So why do people still question the SEC's prowess.?

Because their team is not SEC and they can't handle it. Those of us who live in the Southeast and follow the SEC aren't always happy about it because of the tough competition. Schools outside the SEC are recruiting more heavily in the SouthEast because they have realized there is a lot of talent here.
